CEO: 'Since 34 to 38 million US adults haven't completed their high school education, we know there's a need.'
March 14, 2006 - Corvallis, OR - Today, learning solutions provider e-learn, inc. launched a free educational article series for GED Test candidates, designed to ease the process for adult learners who want to obtain the General Education Development credential.
The 25-plus article series is e-learn's latest student-centered endeavor that specifically focuses on the GED, the adult learner's alternative to a high school diploma. Like all e-learn solutions, the newest educational initiative is inclusive of rigorous standards recommended by the American Council on Education, the national oversight agency for the GED.
"Our research continually shows that many adults who never graduated from high school simply don't understand the difficulty or value of the GED test, the testing requirements or even the process of preparation and the best way to take the test," said Michael Ormsby, e-learn CEO. "While many adults want to get a GED, they're often so overwhelmed by the process itself they find it exceedingly difficult to get started. To help them overcome this barrier, we developed a series of educational articles that answer the most frequent questions, and address the most common concerns among GED students and potential test candidates.
"These articles are not at all specific to our products -- we realize that our solutions may not be a good fit for all adult learners, but any adult who wants or needs a GED deserves support. And since 34 to 38 million US adults haven't completed their high school education, we know there's a need. As a learning solutions provider, we believe it's incumbent upon us to try to meet the needs of our audience, along with the millions of people who are often neglected by traditional educational models. These adult learners are struggling - they need real information, tailored to their perspectives and skills, that clearly explains the benefits of the GED, test prep and the testing process," Ormsby said.
While e-learn's new educational initiative focuses on adult learners, it's not just for students, Ormsby said, adding that adult students often look for help from supportive community networks.
"Since so many nonprofits, housing communities, corrections and workforce development programs are driving education and self-sufficiency programs, we know that these groups also have a critical need for this type of educational content and service. So, we're happy to offer any community or its partners free distribution rights. Our articles may be published in newsletters, via websites, or used to supplement educational programs and services."
The articles, written by Ormsby and instructor Leonard Williams, address issues such as GED eligibility, study tips and study skills, test-taking tips, test scoring and even how to get motivated and strategies to manage test anxiety. Articles also include information on GED benefits and community resources -- from where to take tests and why they're important, to guides for finding financial aid and community support.
